Join a collaborative, hands-on woodworking workshop where
learning happens through shared experience. This peer led class
brings together beginners and experienced makers to explore
woodworking fundamentals in a supportive, community-driven
environment.
Participants will learn essential shop safety, basic tool use, and
foundational woodworking techniques while working on individual
or small group projects. The workshop encourages collaboration,
discussion, and skill sharing.
This class is ideal for anyone interested in working with wood,
building practical skills, and connecting with others through
making. No prior woodworking experience is required
If you could complete a user form before attending that would be
helpful. This is for health and safety purposes and will be needed
to done before using the workshop.

To use the power tools in the workshop you will need to have an
induction which is £20. This will cover all the power tools we have
in the workshop, how to use them safely and correct use of PPE.
Please get in touch to arrange this. If you plan on using only hand
tools, no induction is necessary.

affordable and inspiring spaces in the heart of Moss Side, perfect

Whether you're running a workshop, hosting a meeting, or working
on a large-scale build, our facilities provide the ideal environment
to bring your ideas to life.
We have a large community room for hire (45m2), which is a
multifunctional space that can be used for meetings, group
sessions, workshops, co-working or creative collaborations. Prices
start from just £10 per hour. We also have the 100m2 hangar space
which is perfect for large-scale projects like set building, or
creating large pieces of furniture. Prices starting from £20 per

led by Nick a qualified joiner and carpenter. Perfect for beginners
and enthusiasts alike, this course teaches you traditional carving
techniques using freshly cut, "green" wood.
Under the expert guidance, you'll learn how to safely handle
tools, shape wood into beautiful, functional items, and
appreciate the natural qualities of green wood. By the end of the
course, you'll have crafted your own unique pieces and gained

Much of the UK’s plastic waste is dumped or transported
overseas, and causes huge environmental damage. For our
Precious Plastic project, we use machines and tools which grind,
melt, and inject plastic, allowing for the creation of new products
on a small scale at the Boiler House. We always use 100%
recycled plastic, and we can design and manufacture new
products using our equipment.
We also offer educational workshops on site so you can get hands on
with our machines and learn about plastic recycling. Help us by setting
up a plastic waste collection point in your home, school, or workspace.

to create a circular and sustainable economy.

FLOW SPACE
Flow Space is a welcoming, community-focused yoga studio based at the
Boiler House in Moss Side. We offer weekly classes for all levels, from
complete beginners to experienced yogis, with a range of styles including
Vinyasa, Yin, Mandala and Foundations. Whether you're looking to build
strength, slow down, or simply carve out time for yourself, you'll find a

Whether you’re a complete beginner or someone looking to
sharpen your skills, this hands-on course is designed to empower
you with practical DIY knowledge.
Over eight weeks, our female instructor Maria will guide you
through essential techniques, from using basic tools and materials
to tackling common household repairs. You'll gain confidence in
woodwork, painting, tiling and more, with plenty of opportunities
to practice in our fully equipped workshop. Come learn, create,
and connect with fellow DIY enthusiasts in a welcoming and
sustainable environment. To sign up for this course please

workbench hire
Workbenches in our woodworking workshop are available on a pay
as you go basis for hobbyists that want to get on with their own
projects. The workshop will be shared by a maximum of 4 people.
Our selection of woodwork tools includes a table saw,
a chop saw, track saw a router, cordless drills, and various hand
tools. It costs just £5 for half a day and £10 for the full day.
We require all pay as you go workshop users to have an induction
which costs £20 and lasts 2 hours this includes a short exam.
The induction covers how to use the tools safely without supervision.

the bike workshop
Friday 10.30am - 4pm
They have a number of volunteers and staff which enables them to
offer bike Repairs. They are a small social enterprise, meaning they
can keep costs low which means we are often much cheaper than high
street bike shops. The mechanics are trained to at least City and
Guilds Bike Maintenance Level 2.
BIKE SALES
Have a number of pre-loved bikes for sale which are sold
via their website and at the Boiler House weekly. They offer use
of a FREE hire bike for the period that your bike is in our workshop
for repair at no extra cost.

Manchester Cycling Academy, a provider of cycling education and
events. It’s a social enterprise which offers traditional bike shop
services, sells refurbished bikes, trains bike mechanics, runs bike
maintenance workshops and provides bike rentals.

Welcome to Boiler House – a former district power station just a mile from
the middle of Manchester, re purposed as a centre for making and
mending. In the 1990s the Boiler House operated as a power station for
thousands of homes in Moss Side. In May 2019, Manchester-based social
enterprise Sow the City signed a 12-year lease on the building.
At the Boiler House we aim to provide free and low-cost use of tools,
equipment and space for people and be a catalyst for people to reach
their potential. Our classes are open to everyone even if they’ve never
picked up a paint brush or ever used a power tool. We employ workshop
leaders who are experts in their field. They provide information,
enthusiasm, and a safe environment for learning.
We run a variety of community workshops, providing skills for
employment, improving health and well being, developing a circular
economy, and promoting gender and race equality.
Our centre provides space for people of all ages and backgrounds to work
together and participate in practical hands-on ways to shape their lives
and communities. This could be as simple as making planters for growing
veg at home, or as complex as developing collaborative art, or designing
and fabricating new products. We believe everyone can participate given
the right encouragement and support.

The Boiler House venue can be hired for events, meeting and workshops.
Our workshops have fully customizable workshop space with three phase
supply in the hangar and workshop 1. We have a range of equipment for
hire and technical support available if required.

Workshop 3 and 4: micro enterprise units (20 m²) - currently unavailable

Last Saturday of every month

A Repair Café is a meeting place open to everyone, where people
can bring damaged or broken items (electrical items, clothes,
furniture, bikes) and have experts help to fix them for free.
You don’t need to be ‘handy’, just turn up on the day with your
broken item. It’s not just about fixing things it’s about reducing
waste and building a community.

week mushroom volunteering program. Whether you’re a
complete beginner or already passionate about mycology, this
course will teach you the full cycle of mushroom cultivation, from
spore to storage.
Participants will learn practical skills including:
